GRAND RAPIDS — Director, writer, and actor Ben Stiller will produce “30 Minutes or Less” which is set to start in July and is expected to last through October.  The West Michigan Film Office says this will be the biggest movie project shot in the area not just since Michigan’s tax incentives to attract movie production went into place, but the biggest ever.  Production is expected to last until October.

Producers won’t say exactly how much they will spend, only that will be at least ten-million dollars.  Producers have also booked five-thousand hotel rooms.  The movie is rumored to feature actors Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride, Michael Pena, and Nick Swardson.

NEW YORK — The Empire State’s $420 million production tax credits program, part of the state budget bill lawmakers are considering, has received a shot in the arm.

New York comptroller Thomas DiNapoli issued a report Tuesday that credits previous incentive programs with driving $7 billion into the state’s economy from their 2004 launch through 2008. He also credits the program with contributing to the employment of as many as 63,000 people in 2008, double-digit-percentage job creation since the start of the incentives, as much as $5 billion in wages in 2008 and boosting state and local tax coffers Read the rest of this entry »

Michigan Music Production – Music can benefit from the Michigan film tax incentive

Mar-14-2010

DETROIT (AP) — A little-known state tax break for music producers could help put Motown back on the music map, but theDetroit Free Press says so far no one has taken advantage of it.

The state is offering tax credits of up to 42 percent for the production of music CDs and music videos. The break was designed to attract big-name artists to record in Michigan, which already is home to Eminem, Kid Rock and Bob Segar.

The tax credit has been available since April 2008, but no one has taken advantage of it apparently because it is so little-known.

Industry insiders like Brian Pastoria of Harmonie Park Studios say the incentive has potential to help grow the state’s music business.
