DETROIT (WXYZ) – A federal grant will help Detroiters train for work in the state’s growing film industry.
Governor Jennifer Granholm, Mayor Dave Bing and Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano announced Monday the $438,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor will go to the Detroit Workforce Development Department, which is a Michigan Works! agency. The DWDD film technician training program will provide hands-on education in the film production and employment opportunities in the industry.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has acquired domestic and some international rights to Tony Goldwyn’s feature film “Betty Anne Waters” starring Hilary Swank.
